The St Joseph’s Hospital Visitation Project is a long established project within Ennis Lions Club. It takes place on a monthly basis prior to the start of each Club meeting. It started out as an annual Christmas visit where a Christmas card and gift was given to the patient. This practice goes back to the early 1980’s. In the mid 1990’s the project developed into the annual Christmas visit combined with monthly visits. The increase in the frequency of visitation seemed to be appreciated by the patients especially those who had infrequent or no visits. It also gave the patients the opportunity to discuss topics other than those associated with hospital matters. The visitations were also found to be a rewarding experience for those Club members involved and sometimes they resulted in a renewal of old acquaintances.
May the project long continue to provide patients with a little cheer and enjoyable conversation.
