For more than 20 years now Ennis Lions Club has been addressing fuel poverty in the community. Around Christmas time each year up to 150 homes have benefitted by receiving 2 or 3 bags of logs.
This project has been extremely rewarding both for the beneficiaries and for the wider Lions Club community. Over the years wind fallen trees were sourced, sawn and chopped into logs by able bodied members assisted by family and friends. The participants in this activity have nothing but happy memories. Notwithstanding the very hard work involved, it engendered a great spirit of camaraderie and a wonderful sense of achievement.
On the designated day, with all hands on deck, the logs are loaded into vans provided free of charge and dropped off at addresses of appreciative family homes. Being extremely conscious of sensitivity towards recipients, Ennis Lions Club is made aware of the designated addresses only and not the names. Typically the list is provided by St Vincent de Paul.
